"Now a question occurs to me: The individual Entity and its material form ... one is within the other. Does the Entity create the material body for itself or how does the outer from appear?"

"All life as expressed in this world is dual. As a matter of fact it is more plural than that, but his aspect will do for the present. The original unicellular lump of material jelly does not appear from nowhere of its own accord. It is the material clothing of the individual God-thought that animates it ... Or we might call it God-spark or God-ray - that which comes from God - without the Earth plane and enters in the first instance the lump of protoplasmic jelly. Therefore you see that from the first original starting point of life expressed in this world's matter - life is dual. It is the finer God-vibration clothed in the coarser material vibration.

Well now, it is easy to see that as the unicellular life grows, as it opens itself through its efforts to keep alive to the God-vibrational Rays, as it is growing from within outwards. The life that animates and maintains the lump of jelly is within the lump of jelly. The spark of life within is within the lump of jelly. The spark of life within is the finer vibration - the jelly is the coarser vibrational expression of the inner vibration . Therefore all growth of either or both must be dual. It must be parallel. Growth must go on in the one parallel with the other. the material body develops senses which are the physical (or coarser vibrational) counterpart of that which is growing within - or the finer vibrational life spark.

The central Core or God-spark or Spirit within the material form is continually growing, as we have seen, as it opens itself to the God-rays outside the earth-plane. As it opens itself, as it takes in more Rays, so it grows, so it becomes more complicated in structure. It is filling itself with Love-Rays, God-rays. Love is creative, and it is making itself of Love - therefore it creates out of its own vibrational content an outer counterpart of itself. 

All growth is from within - outwards. First the God-form within; then the physical expression of itself in matter."

"But for what purpose?"

"Because, as we have already seen, God is creating out of His own Substance, through Experience, individuals potentially like Himself.

Life in its simplest form, by reason of its God-essence is creative. it is creating itself all the time. And as life becomes more complicated in structure, so is its creative power more potent. The animal is many times more creative that plant-life. Man is many times more creative than animal-life. The potential creative power of man grows in accordance with his ability to open himself to more God-power ... or what we call inspiration.

"Then is this dual life growth going on all the time?"

"Yes, of course. It would have to be one Law throughout all life growth, wouldn't it? Just as the first life in this world within the first cell grew by taking into itself more and more God-rays, which were expressed in its growing outward from, so it is today throughout all forms of life. For you must remember that life has not stopped this process. There is still new life appearing in unicellular form every minute of the twenty-four hours. We know that, don't we?"

"Yes. Then an animal or man as we se him is really dual - there are two of him?"

"Yes. Man, just like his forefather the single cell, grows from within outwards. How could it be otherwise?"

"Then why do we see only the outer from?"

"Because that with which we see, the eyes, are outer form. The are of like vibration - the coarser material vibration - as that which is seen. The science of men tells us that wave-lengths must be of the same frequency to connect. So it is with matter. Our material senses can only see, feel, touch, hear, physical vibrations, which of course are in tune with or of the same frequency as that which is seen, felt, touched and so on."

"Then what about the inner form? Is that insensible to all these things?"

"Let us study the inner form for a moment - for it is the only part of us that is in touch with God outside our material conditions. It is the go-between, so to speak, between God and the material body of man.

All through the ages this inner form has been growing. It has grown through Experience, through Effort, taken into itself more and more of the God-rays of Love and Giving. According to its individual needs and individual reactions to Experience it has grown up, individual to itself - different from its fellows. It is made up of more and more of the Rays which are different in their vibrational content. So the inner form becomes more complex, just as a piece of music becomes more complex, has more significance, when more harmonies and variations are added to the original single notes.

As it grows it creates of itself the material bodily counterparts of its God-vibrations. Out of the ingredients it has in its storehouse, out of that which it is, it creates its outward body. Its ingredients may be straightness, softness, depth, this color or that, sweetness, sharpness, keenness and so on; or there may be lack of many of these qualities. These make up its outer (and its inner) form; the form that will function in matter in this world. It is the form that will through experiences, through Effort, in its turn create the need in the inner form to open itself yet more to the God-rays. And so the one serves the other. So are they both necessary one to the other. So do they interact one upon the other.

Then you asked me 'is the inner self insensible to the impingements of the outer vibrations?'

You know, of course, what is meant in electrical terms by 'live wire', a wire made live, made potent, by electricity passing through it. Outwardly there is nothing to show that the wire is animated by this power. Only the results of its activity shows you that. The 'dead wire' remains inert, it is impotent. The 'live wire' through which the electricity is passed will drive engines, shift enormous weights, and so on.

Have you ever picked a bunch of periwinkles? You have them in your hand, all straight and strong as when they were growing. Then you notice that one of them has become limp. It is bending over, incapable of supporting itself. You wonder why. Within in flower there drives up the center a fine thread. This thread is separate from the outer stem as a tube within a tube. But it carries the life-stream of the plant. Pick the flower carelessly so as to pull out this delicate thread, and instantly the flower will droop. so it is with our bodies with the bodies of all living things from the single cell upward. The outer, coarser form is supported and maintained by the inner finer form that holds the life stream. The senses of the outer form are in tune with the coarser material vibration in which it is to function for the time being. The inner, finer - or spiritual - form is in touch with the finer - or spiritual - vibrations from which it derives its being. its life. It is in touch with the God-rays, the Love Rays of Giving. The material form is maintained outwardly by food of a like material nature or vibration. The inner form is maintained by food of a like spiritual nature or vibration.

Now, is the one insensible of the other, you ask?

Well, is the cream on top of a bowl of milk in any way separate or different from the milk, except in coarseness of substance? Is the ice on top of a pond any different from the water beneath except in coarseness of substance? They are both the same substance, the one created from the other, the only difference or separation is in coarseness or fineness of vibration. Isn't that so?"

"Yes, that is so. But how does one act upon the other?"

"Through the process of Mind.

Here we must remember that we are trying to clothe our thoughts in words which, however carefully chosen, are very poor weapons of understanding.

You might ask me that if all life is Ray-vibrational activity, what started those vibrations in the first place? What started the Rays beaming through upon the universe? I would say Mind started it. What is Mind? God is Mind. Beyond that I cannot take you because I do not know. But I do know that this thing we call Mind is all-powerful, all creating. First Cause of things. Mind is God."

"I see. 'God thought thought of Love, and Creation stirred in the womb of time' "
