"And where does error come in?"

"Error as such does not come until the Core or Eternity of the 'now built up individual collection of vibrations or God-rays' has learned Perception and Self-awareness.

This is man.

When this moment arrives the possibility of conscious selection occurs. By continual experience through the working of the Law of Trial and Error the individual Core or Soul learns to choose. His choice of course is limited by the degree of perception arrived at, or in others words by the total of Ray-vibrations of which the individual Entity has now built himself. By continual re-entry into matter in one form or another the more to gain experience does the Entity gain in power to choose."

"And is pain necessary?"

"Where there is no Effort there is no gain. Where there is Effort pain is not necessary. But pain produces Effort where there would otherwise be none."

"Then what is pain - what is fear?"

"Fear and pain are the Law of Love, of Magnetic Attraction inverted.

Fear is inverted Love operating in the mind and senses.

Pain is inverted Love (though there is of course mental pain) operating on the body.

Fear is a taking; Love is a giving. Love creates, fear destroys. Love is the wave-length whereby all creative vibrations can enter in. Fear, being an inversion of that wave-length: A instead of: V puts up a block, a barrier, so that the reception of the creative Rays is impossible. Love cannot get in. Fear constitutes a drawing out, a sapping of God-power. Fear induces a vacuum - no creation, no Light, no Love. Fear induces darkness, hate, destruction - negative things."

"As in the training ground of this earth 'natural causes' produce fear, what then is the value of fear?"

"Fear induces the necessity of Effort. Fear is so painful a sensation that something must be done about it. Intense fear in an animal induces the need for intense Effort. The individual-collection-of-Rays, spurred by fear, cracks itself open in Effort - Effort to flee, Effort to fight, or in the self-aware man, Effort to counteract fear. Effort not to be afraid. Effort means a reaching-out beyond the present limitation of the Entity. Effort opens new channels for the God-power to rush in. Effort is the harnessing of the God-power outside the Entity and drawing it inwards. Effort establishes a point of contact between the God-spark within the Entity and the God-fire outside. Effort enlarges the spark. God is increasing the Him within the Entity.

God is creating of Himself unimaginable millions of individual Himselves, created of His own substance, His own thought-rays, His own Light. But instead of one Himself are growing up individuals whose power and strength and multiple individuality increases with every fresh effort, with every fresh life from that it takes on. We are individuals within the One Whole; each individually separate from each other and from Him, yet all one Life within the Godstream of Life."

"And pain?"

"Pain is the Love vibration inverted. When something goes wrong with the receiving set the set oscillates. The controlling intelligence of the set frantically tries to find out what is wrong. A fox bites off the poor broken pad to free himself from the iron trap. The man in agony struggles to throw off the pain, to find out what is wrong: He uses Effort. Effort is the harnessing of the God-power... more power rushes in. The central core or Ego is once more increased.

Where there is little Effort life becomes static. Where there is no Effort life goes back.

Physical pain is a preserver of life in the physical body. It is an indication of something wrong making itself manifest by an inrush of feeling - of the same God-power - which gives a sensation of pain because something is wrong with the receiving set, causing the set to oscillate or function falsely. the more open the Entity is to God-power, the more is it able to feel pain. The more also is the Entity capable of transmuting the inrush of God-power into an experience unpainful. It is a changing by the receiving set of < to >  ... of negativity to positivity.

Pain of the mind and heart is a preserver of life, the life of the spirit or Ego. Pain of the heart and mind is an inrush of the same God-power; it 'stabs the spirit broad awake.' The spirit that, because of the natural inertia of earth conditions, is all too apt to slumber. The Entity is split a little more open to receive the Rays of God-power; it struggles a little more to find out how to tune in its set so as to avoid oscillation and produce lack of pain or positivity of expression of God-power."

"Then why is inertia a rule of this world?"

"Almost everything is a virtue. Inertia is the opposite of Effort. Effort causes an inrush of God-power, an increasing of the sum total of God within the Entity. Therefore the natural Inertia which is a rule of this planet, Inertia against which all living things have to fight to live - is a virtue. Inertia breeds Effort. To live, Inertia must be overcome. To overcome Inertia the Entity must strive. Striving involves Effort. Once more the God-core of the Entity is cracked open to the God-power. it is a question of Demand and Supply."

"How do you mean - Demand and Supply?"

"Well, God which is Love, Love with is Giving, Giving which is Supply - waits only on Demand. 'Ask and ye shall receive.' Demand and Love supplies Love is always waiting to give.

The growing Entity, to overcome the Inertia with which it is over-pressed, struggles against its death-dealing weight. It strives to live, it uses great Effort, it desires life, it demands life, it opens itself to receive life. Life rushes in. Creative Love rushes in.
