"But what animates the germ of life?"

"The germ of life is also God. Every Ray is different from the next, is an individual thought in the god-mind; and every germ of life is different from its fellow, is individual; so every germ uses its individuality of vibrational structure with which to choose its building material. The individuality of vibrational structure of the germ of life causes it, by Law of Love or Magnetic Attraction (like attracting like), to tune in with Ray-vibrations of like frequency. Thus it is built up. Thus it gradually becomes a more complicated structure. It chooses the Rays with which to build itself.

At first it is as elementary as can be imagined. Then according to the growing individuality of the germ nucleus, so more and more does it select, by process of like attracting like, its Rays. More and more does it tune in with this or that Ray. All the time it is building its form. With each renewed life the sum total of itself mounts higher; its individuality, built by individual selection, from and with individual-Rays increases: Plant life, animal life, human life are the outcome.

God is the tissue of which all is made. God within the unicellular life is the Maker - God the spark within the germ. The Ray-material is God - is radiation from the Mind of God."

"But how is the building done?"

"By the Law of Magnetic Attraction. Attraction is Love. Love is God. Attraction is a force comparable to electricity. Electricity follows certain laws. The God-law of Love or Attraction functions as a Law. It is the Law by which all building up, all growth through Effort is accomplished."

"What use is effort in the scheme of things?"

"Effort is the drawing-in, the making use of the God-power available.

The unicellular spark of life is fiated on and from and supported by a certain vibration. It is a certain individual vibration. According to the Law 'like vibration attracts like vibration', so just as a snowball when rolled over snow gathers more snow to itself, so the cell of life, like attracting like, gathers up more of that vibration to which it is attracted, with which it is sympathetic. 

Just as in chemical compounds some are receptive to others, while some naturally reject each other - are non-attracted. So it grows, so it takes form, so comes mineral life, so comes vegetable life, so eventually comes animal life.

The spark of life is separate from but animating the material protoplasm, just as the hand is separate from the glove it wears. The gradually increasing vibrational Core of each particular expression of Life is being built up; after each spell as the spark-of-life nucleus of a form of matter, it is withdrawn, or it dies, but maintaining its vibrational form by the Law of Magnetic Attraction; then it enters matter again. And by the Law, by Effort, by the Attraction of like vibration to like vibration so is it built up. The Core of Attraction tunes in to this and that Ray-vibration, opens itself to it, like attracts like, so that Ray flows in, building up and increasing the individual Core.

By Effort, by the harnessing of the God-power within is that particular Ray-vibrational expression in matter maintained. Effort draws to the Core more power, more God. By Effort, by continual struggle for existence is power generated. By effort power is drawn through from the God outside into the Core of Being as expressed as matter on this planet"
