Mira
Bai
(1498-1547)
Mira Bai was an Indian noblewoman
who married a prince, but her devotion to the Hindu God Krishna caused her to
reject all conventional values.
Leaving the women's quarters, she
would mix with holy men and dance before the image in the temple. This flouting
of social mores led to her persecution, including an attempt of poisoning.
She
formed part of the bhakti movement, which advocated complete devotion as the
path to the realization of God.
