Why Your Life Makes No Sense
|
by Jean-Claude Koven
How do you deal with a wise-cracking, irreverent dog with serious attitude? What?¢â?¬â?¢s more, Zeus (that?¢â?¬â?¢s his name) tells me that he?¢â?¬â?¢s not a dog at all but an advanced being in dog form, here to turn my world inside out. For example:
WHY YOUR LIFE MAKES NO SENSE
Though he?¢â?¬â?¢s a highly evolved being, Zeus delights in being a dog?¢â?¬â?especially when it comes to sticking his head out of the car window when we drive. He claims tuning into the smells of the human world gives him a sensory high.

THE H WORD
If you met Zeus, you?¢â?¬â?¢d no doubt agree that he?¢â?¬â?¢s a remarkable being. He?¢â?¬â?¢s brilliant, unexpectedly funny, and wise beyond comprehension?¢â?¬â?hardly astounding for someone from a dimension as far advanced beyond the human race as we are beyond a pile of sand.

How To Tell If You're Not From Here

HOW TO TELL IF YOU?¢â?¬â?¢RE NOT FROM HERE
Only a few of my closest friends have heard Zeus speak. When he converses it?¢â?¬â?¢s telepathic, but out of habit my friends sometimes respond aloud, as I used to. He can project his thoughts so perfectly that you?¢â?¬â?¢d swear you were listening to a real voice?¢â?¬â?one with a delightful array of dialects and inflections, plus an encyclopedic knowledge of cosmic and planetary data to share.

You may have written these words yourself. May be you have "been there?"
"Watch out! You nearly broad sided that car!"
My father yelled at me. "Can't you do anything right?" Those words hurt worse than blows. I turned my head toward the elderly man in the seat beside me, daring me to challenge him. A lump rose in my throat as I averted my eyes.
I wasn't prepared for another battle.
"I saw the car, Dad. Please don't yell at me when I'm driving." My voice was measured
and steady, sounding far calmer than I really felt. Dad glared at me, then turned away
and settled back. At home I left Dad in front of the television and went outside to collect
my thoughts. Dark, heavy clouds hung in the air with a promise of rain. The rumble of
distant thunder seemed to echo my inner turmoil. What could I do about him?

This is a fictional essay based on a true story about a man, a crisis, and a house filled with life's wisdoms.
"One day I found myself on the verge of a nervous breakdown. It was not surprising. I was drowning in work, working for newspapers, writing several books at the same time, and still, my income became more and more insecure all the time. As a result, my physical well-being suffered as well. And if that wasn't enough I also experienced a crisis in my personal life. In a word: I thought my life was a total failure. I just wanted to be alone, like a wounded animal that needs to heal. In this state of mind I rented a little house at the edge of town. Here I wanted to spend the next period of my life.

WHO SCREWED UP?
?¢â?¬??Ever wonder how the world got to be so messed up??¢â?¬? Zeus asked.
The question, like most of the curve balls Zeus delights in hurling at me, came completely out of the blue. This time I was washing up a short stack of dishes. Cooking for one and a half doesn?¢â?¬â?¢t use up much of the dinnerware.

AN INDECENT PREPOSITION
Zeus and I were on the Del Mar cliffs watching the sun sink into the Pacific. Cloudless sunsets have never been my favorite. No kaleidoscopic pyrotechnics, just a big fireball, the source of life itself, getting swallowed up by the sea. I could see why the ancients worshiped their primitive gods, never completely certain of the next dawn without their divine intervention.

Did You Really Mean To Say That?

Very few restaurants in Los Angeles cater to both man and dog?¢â?¬â?even a dog that has incarnated from another dimension to help Earth?¢â?¬â?¢s inhabitants cope with the major challenges ahead. However, a handful of excellent eateries in West Hollywood are exceptions to the rule. They welcome us with open arms, provided we sit at one of their outdoor tables. Tr???¨s Europ???©en. One particular day I was deep into my second cappuccino and the morning paper?¢â?¬â?¢s crossword puzzle when I began to notice Zeus?¢â?¬â?¢s unintelligible muttering.

A story on past lives, spirit guides and intuition
-----------
Lea was tired. She had a long flight half around the world, which ended in a bus trip in an old bus that looked as if it would fall
apart in a second. Her whole body hurt from the strains of the journey. Half dreaming, she barely noticed the beautiful wild landscapes...
The bus stopped. Startled, Lea woke up. "Are we finally there", she asked herself. No, it was only a gas station. The driver got off the bus. She heard him cursing and yelling at the station attendant. Not knowing the language, Lea followed the gestures, trying to imagine what they were talking about. It could be many
things. What would a bus driver in her home country say? Shecouldn't come up with anything. Home was so far away. It seemed
that along with the geographical distance there was also a mental distance.
